= 2.3. Flaps, tabs, and palettes =

The flaps hold most of Sophie’s functionality that you can’t get at through the halos and HUDs. Each flap has tabs in it; each tab has palettes. You can switch tabs by clicking on the tab name. By dragging the edges, you can change how big the tabs and palettes are.  This diagram shows where the flaps, tabs, and palettes are in Sophie's interface:

The left flap is generally concerned with the structure of your book.  

The right flap generally contains content that can be used to make books.

== The left flap ==

The left flap has tabs called '''Timelines''', '''Books''', '''Pages''', and '''Tools'''. The books tabs lists all open books; none of the other tabs do anything yet.

== The right flap ==

The right flap has tabs called '''Library''', '''Resources''', and '''Styles'''. The Library tab has palettes called '''Frame Templates''' and '''Page Templates''' which list the current frame and page templates; clicking on them will apply them to the current frame or page. At present, the resources and styles tabs do nothing.

== Working with flaps ==

If you drag the innermost edge (the right edge of the left flap, or the left edge of the right flap), you can change the width of the flap. This may resize the book desktop and the other flap. A flap has two buttons in its upper right corner:

The '''minimize''' button hides the flap. When the left flap is minimized, it looks like this:

Double-click the title of the flap to unminimize it.

The other button is the '''detach button'''. Clicking this detaches the flap so that it becomes its own window:

You can do the same thing by dragging the flap's title bar somewhere else in Sophie. Click the '''attach''' button in the upper right to re-attach the flap to where it was before.

== Working with tabs ==

Tabs behave like flaps. Next to each tab's title is an '''X''' icon; this doesn't function right now. If you drag a tab out by its title, it becomes detached:

Click the '''attach''' button in the upper right to re-attach the tab to where it was before.

== Working with palettes ==

Palettes work much like flaps. A palette has two buttons in its upper right corner:
