Download Sophie 2.0

Sophie 2.0 is released under the ​Educational Community License, Version 2.0.

Sophie 2.0 requires Java 5 or its equivalent.

The current release is Sophie 2.0.5 build 2010-04-09-8969

Release notes

New features and fixes

  • Select/Copy/Paste functionality in preview/reader
  • Now a visual indicator for reordering pages is provided
  • All binary resources (images, pdf) can not be linked (and embedded) in books. Missing resources do not break app.
  • Fixed bug with server colaboration.
  • A bug related to book saved on server was fixed.
  • Now the resources are ordered by type and are grouped in expandable lists.
  • The bug when overwriting template and its name appears twice in the library is fixed.
  • Now the pages can not be reordered in the reader.
  • Fixed the issue with deleting book resources from palette
  • File dialog has icons for supported file types and an icon for unsupported.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed pages to be reordered in preview mode and Reader
  • The book window is no longer reset on save as
  • Fixed collaboration bug - when a resource that is being edited is deleted by another user
  • More file dialog filters. Added bitmap and mpeg support
  • Added package format. This packs the books with the resources so it can be transferred easily.
  • When the book is saved for first time, its position is reset to 0, 0.
  • When hitting enter on folder in the file dialog, folder is opened instead of importing all its contents.
  • Existing image resources can be used as frame/page background
  • In the application titlebar, there are icons of Sophie instead of the default java icons.
  • Several bugs related to some HUDs were fixed.
  • Icons in Author and reader titlebar, windows and linux
  • Character and Paragraph HUDs are now with icons instead of text

Known issues

  • On MacOS 10.5 first insert of a media and browser may bring an error report
  • Web sites using Flash don't display correctly in browser frames.
  • Sophie's performance is better on computers when running in Java 6 than it is in Java 5; if your computer has both, make sure that you're using Java 6
  • Parts of the timeline interface still work incorrectly.
  • There are some issues with layout redrawing on Windows Vista.
  • Not all resources can be exported in their original formats yet.
  • Possible audio issues with linux32
